California Lt. Gov. John Garamendi Tuesday night won the Democratic primary for the seat of former Rep. Ellen Tauscher, who resigned earlier this year to become Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security. The longtime Democrat will face Republican nominee David Harmer in the November ballot.
According to Secretary of State Debra Bowen’s office, Garamendi received 26.15 percent of votes, with all 176 precincts reporting. State Sen. Mark DeSaulnier took second place with 17.55 percent, followed by state Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan at 12 percent and Army Captain Anthony Woods, who received 8 percent.
