From Texas Politics:
Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst today sent out a letter to supporters announcing he is running for re-election in 2010.
Dewhurst, of course, can change directions between now and the Jan. 4 filing deadline if U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison resigns from office and a Senate special election is in the offing.
But Dewhurst’s decision for the moment may freeze the Republicans below him into place. Attorney General Greg Abbott had been considering a run for lieutenant governor if Dewhurst vacated the post. It is unclear what he will do now.
