From Kare11.com:
Three Republican state lawmakers Monday called for a Constitutional amendment to guarantee Minnesotans will be able to opt for private insurance in the event the federal government ever adopts a single payer national health plan.
“Minnesota is not going to be the lapdog of the federal government when it comes to health care,” Rep. Mark Buesgens of Jordan told reporters at the State Capitol Monday, “We need to stand up and put this before the people.”
President Barack Obama has repeatedly said in the past two weeks that his health care reform package will do nothing to prevent Americans from sticking with their private health plans. He’s made it clear that he’s not seeking to set up a single payer system, similar to Medicare, for all citizens.
