From DesMoinesRegister.com:
Republican Iowa legislators Wednesday released a set of health care reform proposals that they contend would be a better alternative to a national “government takeover” of the health care system.
The legislators said states can take important steps to help residents buy insurance through the private market.
Sen. David Johnson of Ocheyedan said Iowans showed at congressional town-hall meetings this summer that they oppose more government involvement in health care.
“They want common-sense approaches, and they want a market-base approach,” he said.
The Republicans’ ideas include finding a way to lower the cost of basic, “catastrophic” health insurance policies for young adults, who the legislators said make up about half of Iowa’s uninsured.
