State Sen. Gretchen Whitmer has filed paperwork announcing her intention to run for state attorney general in 2010.
The East Lansing Democrat joins a field of candidates that includes Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop, a Rochester Republican, and former congressman Bill Schuette, a Midland Republican.
“I’ve been strongly encouraged to seek the nomination for attorney general,” Whitmer said. “Michigan families work hard and play by the rules. We need an attorney general who puts people first.”
The current attorney general, Republican Mike Cox, is running for governor in 2010.
