From the Baltimore Sun:
Del. Patrick L. McDonough, a Baltimore County Republican, said he plans to announce today legislation that would enable the state to quickly investigate any “ACORN-like organization” suspected of misusing taxpayer money. The Maryland chapter of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now has not received any state money, state officials have said. McDonough said his bill, patterned after one that has been introduced in Congress, is not directed specifically at ACORN. He said the legislation would broaden the state’s authority to investigate groups that might be “engaging in corruption with taxpayers’ money.”
