From SFGate:
All three GOP gubernatorial candidates are now calling on state AG Jerry Brown — the 2010 Democratic gubernatorial candidate — to appoint an independent investigator into the matter of the secret taping of phone calls by an AG spokesman.
Brown’s office released its own investigation this week, saying that former spokesman Scott Gerber was not authorized to tape five reporters’ calls without getting permission. Gerber, who has since resigned, had been warned against the practice, according to the investigation. On the heels of calls for an independent investigation by Consumer Watchdog.org and the California Republican Lawyers Association, the pack of GOP gubernatorial candidates joined Wednesday in urging Brown to make the move.
