By spending a vast amount of money on his U.S. Senate run and his two gubernatorial campaigns, Corzine freed up donors to fund other races, the report stated.
In addition to Corzine’s departure, the Democrats must consider that the party has experienced a drop in party donations due to tougher rules restricting contributions.
“We had a very wealthy governor, and a lot of us got lazy,” State Sen. Stephen Sweeney (D., Gloucester), told the Inquirer. “So now it’s going back to small donors. President Obama proved it could happen.”
