Oklahoma: Republican State Senator Joins Attorney General Race

From Tulsa World:

Sen. Clark Jolley, R-Edmond, and Oklahoma City attorney Jim Priest, a Democrat, indicated Tuesday that they will join the campaign to succeed Attorney General Drew Edmondson, a Democrat who is running for governor.

Jolley, who also is an attorney, said: “We desperately are in need of a pro-jobs, pro-growth attorney general in Oklahoma. People in our state have lost their jobs because of an attorney general’s decision to sue companies in our state.”

He said he was referring in part to Edmondson’s decision to sue poultry companies, alleging that the spreading of chicken waste as fertilizer has polluted eastern Oklahoma watersheds. A trial in the lawsuit is under way in federal court in Tulsa.

Edmondson said: “I think Mr. Jolley will be held to account by the media through the course of his campaign on the claims he makes. I know of no jobs that have been lost due to our litigation to clean up the waters in eastern Oklahoma, but I know thousands of jobs and millions in tourism and recreation that will be lost if we lose those water resources.”
