From CQ Politics:
Texas state Sen. Florence Shapiro (R), who has long angled for the U.S. Senate seat of Kay Bailey Hutchison (R), will file papers to seek re-election next year but still is interested in succeeding Hutchison.
According to the Austin American-Stateman, Shapiro issued a statement Friday that said she will “adjust my U.S. Senate campaign based on the future resignation decision” of Hutchison, who’s challenging Gov. Rick Perry in a GOP primary for governor.
Hutchison originally planned to resign this fall, midway through a six-year term that expires at the end of 2012, to concentrate on unseating Perry. But she announced earlier this month that she will instead postpone her resignation until after the March 2 gubernatorial primary, citing a need to stay in the Senate for the time being to oppose Democratic proposals on health care and energy.
