From Ledger-enquirer:
“It is a privilege because I know my dad held this seat with the utmost respect for the people he represented,” Kip Smith said. “It will be a big challenge to live up to the example he has created.”
Vance Smith held the seat for 17 years before resigning in June to accept the commissioner’s job with the Georgia Department of Transportation. When he left the General Assembly, Vance Smith was among the House Republican leadership.
He said he will offer advice and help his son only when asked. “He is going to have to plow that road by himself,” Vance Smith said. “But I know there are a lot of people there he can lean on if he needs to.”
