Republican former state Rep. George Eichhorn today announced his candidacy for secretary of state, citing as a motivating factor a federal audit that found questionable spending in the office during the previous administration.
Eichhorn, a Stratford lawyer, unsuccessfully sought the 2008 Republican nomination for U.S. Senate, having served three tw0-year terms in the Iowa House before his defeat in 2006.
“Iowans not only want fair elections, they want to know that the Iowa Secretary of State is spending their tax money fairly,” Eichhorn, 55, said in a press release.
