From poughkeepsiejournal.com:
State Republican leaders are touring the state this week as they try to build a statewide slate of candidates for the November elections, boosted by recent election victories nationwide.
The tour by state GOP chairman Ed Cox and Republican legislative leaders comes as the party appears to be coalescing around Rick Lazio as its gubernatorial candidate.
On Tuesday night, Erie County Executive Chris Collins bowed out of a potential run, leaving Lazio as the only announced candidate.
Lazio, a former Long Island congressman and U.S. Senate candidate in 2000, has secured more than 40 percent of the weighted vote needed to win the GOP nomination at its convention this spring.
