Bayou Buzz talks about a course of events, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina of all things, that could lead to Democrat Attorney General Charlie Foti facing a legitimate challenge in ’07. It’s a great piece, touches on grandstanding, sloppy legwork, and trying to run the AGs office like a Sheriff’s department.
The article mentions that the medical community is in a furor over the manner in which Foti announced charges in the case against medical staff at a local medical center.
Now, Foti is receiving a heap of criticism for the way he handled the announcement of charges against the Memorial Medical Center personnel. Some believe Foti was grandstanding in front of the cameras and trying to maximize publicity. Others believe that the whole case will be hard to prove and will make it harder to retain medical professionals in New Orleans in the future. In addition, friends and supporters of the hospital workers have come forward to lambaste Foti for a “witch hunt,” and claiming that Foti had the women arrested in the middle of the night for dramatic effect only.
Interesting stuff…the Republican candidate that’s being talked about to challenge the former Sheriff? Current Secretary of State candidate Jay Dardenne, a state senator from Baton Rouge.
