State Sen. Jonathan Paton is resigning from the Legislature to run for Congress.
Paton announced during a floor speech Monday that it is his last day in the Legislature.
The Tucson Republican’s resignation had been expected, as Paton has said running for Congress while serving in the Legislature amounts to two full-time jobs.
He’s running in a multi-candidate Republican primary field for the 8th Congressional District seat held by Democrat Gabrielle Giffords.
