From Richmond Times-Dispatch:
Virginia Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling—stranded in Florence, Italy, due to the volcanic ash cloud from Iceland that now covers much of Western Europe—will miss tomorrow’s reconvened General Assembly session.
Chief of staff Randy Marcus said the earliest flight available for Bolling was not until Thursday. He will fly from Florence to Frankfurt, Germany, before flying back to Washington. The Florence and Frankfurt airports have been closed due to the ash cloud, but are scheduled to reopen. Italy is six hours ahead of Richmond.
As lieutenant governor, Bolling, a Republican, presides over the 40-member Virginia Senate, which has 22 Democrats and 18 republicans. Bolling is empowered to cast tie-breaking votes on matters before the legislative body.
