From Tallahassee.com:
Republican women raffled off a pink rifle and took a few potshots at political foes Sunday in a feminized call to arms for Florida’s 2010 political campaign.
The first annual “Real Women Shoot Back” picnic, political rally and target practice drew about 150 voters to the Coon Bottom Gun Club in the tall pine country of Gadsden County. Organizer Jenny Whitaker of the Tallahassee Republican Women’s Club said the federation hoped to net about $2,500 to help GOP candidates and build the party.
“I think you’ll find most of our members are members of the National Rifle Association,” said Cindy Graves of Jacksonville, state president of the Republican Women’s Federation. “We believe in guns and believe in women protecting themselves and using firearms safely. We’re going to do this all over the state.”
While visitors ate barbecued chicken and enjoyed skeet shooting, trap shooting and a pistol range, vendors sold bumper stickers and T-shirts with conservative messages. Those included top 10 reasons women prefer guns to men (sample: “Guns stay good-looking and dependable for years”) and why men prefer guns to women (sample: “A gun never asks ‘Do these grips make me look fat?’ “).
