The Speaker is probably on to something here. The trial bar is influential, and very present in Texas. Folks like the Speaker, and Lt. Governor Dewhurst are all to aware of the plaintiffs bar influence down there.
MIDLAND (AP) – Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick says rebel House members who tried to oust him this year are backed by trial lawyers who want to repeal the lawsuit limitations he pushed through in 2003.”The trial lawyers are a big factor. I’m the one who pushed tort reform and I’m not their favorite person. I think I’m on their dart board. The group that’s really pushing to get a different speaker is the one that wants to reverse the tort laws,” Craddick said in Thursday’s Midland Reporter-Telegram.
