Maryland Governor Ties Tax Cuts, Health Coverage To Slots(Annapolis, MD) — Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley says if slots aren’t legalized by the General Assembly, he won’t slash property taxes, freeze college tuition, pump more money into the construction of new schools, or broaden health care coverage.
The Democratic governor favors using money from slots and higher taxes to put a dent in the huge budget deficit. First, he has to convince members of the Democratically-controlled legislature to put his plan on slots before voters nearly a year from now.
