A raft of Republicans registered by Tuesday’s deadline to run in this fall’s legislative elections, showing enthusiasm for the GOP as it seeks to take back the Legislature.
In the 99-member Assembly, Republicans have fielded candidates in 87 districts – up 12 districts from 2008 – and have a total of 135 candidates – up 38 from 2008, according to the Republican Assembly Campaign Committee.
Along with legislative candidates, the contenders in races for governor, U.S. Senate, other statewide offices, Congress and some county offices had the same deadline Tuesday to file nomination signatures with elections officials to be placed on ballots in the Sept. 14 primary and Nov. 2 general elections.
