State Rep. Lynn Finnegan has formally become a candidate for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.
Finnegan, the GOP leader in the House, filed her candidacy papers with the state Office of Elections on Thursday.
She has been a state representative for the last eight years.
The 39-year-old Finnegan is the daughter and sister of U.S. veterans, and the granddaughter of a member of the Philippine guerrilla army during World War II.
