STATE SENATE: Democrats pick up one seat, will control Senate 23-17

District 1: Democrat Jeff Van Drew defeated GOP State Sen. Nicholas Asselta.

District 2: Democrat James Whelan defeated GOP State Sen. Sonny McCullough.

District 8: Republican Phil Haines defeated Democrat Francis Bodine.

District 11: Republican Sean Kean defeated Democrat John Villapiano.

District 12: Republican Jennifer Beck defeated Democratic State Sen. Ellen Karcher.

District 14: Republican Bill Baroni defeated Democrat Seema Singh.

District 39: Republican Gerlad Cardinale was re-elected, defeating Democrat Joseph Ariyan.

Assembly Seats:

Republicans picked up Assembly seats in Districts 2, 8 and 12, and lost one in District 14. Only one Assembly incumbent, Michael Panter, was defeated for re-election.
