NJ: GOP Gains In Trenton First In 16 Years

Even in blue New Jersey, Republicans made gains in the state and local races. The mandate national Democrats were looking for is gone – and they won’t find it Virginia, Kentucky, Mississippi, or Louisiana this year – spin as they may.

Although the gain was small in Trenton, the election also yielded the defeat of two ballot questions pushed by Democratic Party leaders. Also, Republicans gaining mayoral seats that had been held by Democrats in three of the state’s 12 largest municipalities — Hamilton in Mercer County and Toms River and Brick in Ocean County.Republican State Committee chairman Tom Wilson said the election may signal the beginning of the “pendulum swinging back” in favor of Republicans.
