A whistle-blower awarded millions of dollars from the state of Texas has lost his fight to keep the Internal Revenue Service from taxing the bulk of the award.
A federal appeals court sided with the IRS in contending the majority of George Green’s $13.7 million settlement was for punitive damages, which are taxable, The San Antonio Express-News reported Monday.
