And that’s the just beginning of the great news out of New York this morning.
The New York Daily News revealed that it had seen a copy of a draft fundraising appeal from former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani for Republican AG candidate Jeanine Pirro.
This is a classic move on so many levels.
First the obvious – which the Daily News nails: “…Giuliani's endorsement solidifies her position as a party leader. And it also should mean a much-needed cash infusion into her campaign since Giuliani carries clout with big GOP donors.”
This is the kind of endorsement Jeanine Pirro needed – a stamp from a guy like Giuliani who is still accorded a tremendous amount of respect from all corners for many aspects of his judgment. In essence – he’s saying Jeanine Pirro can win – it’s a good place to put your money – especially against either Andrew Cuomo or Mark Green. This endorsement, not just the event he’ll be headlining, will get the attention of a lot of big check writers in the city who respect the former mayor.
Now the not so obvious breaks down like this: Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani – Mayor of the World – is endorsing Republican Attorney General Candidate Jeanine Pirro in November’s General Election. That would normally be your first earned media hit.
Not here.
Here, the first earned media hit – the first endorsement if you will – is the leak of a DRAFT copy of the Giuliani letter that’s being “worked on” by the campaign and Rudy’s team.
The second earned media hit will be when the actual letter goes out heralding the event.
The third hit on the Giuliani endorsement will be the event itself.
A FOURTH hit – will be when he hits the trail with candidate Pirro in October.
And that, friends, is how you make the most of a good thing.
